A Moving Checklist: Declutter before you move!

Spring is in the air, and for many, it's the perfect time to buy or sell a home. While the prospect of a new home is exciting, the process of moving can seem overwhelming. Fear not! I’m here to help you with a stress free move into your new home!

Preparing for the Move

Before packing, declutter and downsize your belongings to create a clutter-free space in your new home. Consider enlisting the help of a Professional Home Organizer (like me!) to streamline the decluttering process and provide expert guidance. Stay organized by keeping all your important documents, receipts, and moving contracts in one place.

Packing

Stock up on sturdy boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and markers. Don't forget to label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to for efficient organizing. Tackle one room at a time to avoid chaos and ensure efficient organizing. Begin with the least-used rooms first and save the essentials for last. Pack a 'First-Day' Box: Include essentials like toiletries, a change of clothes, important documents, and snacks to keep you comfortable during the first day in your new home.

Smooth Transition

Remember to update your address with utilities, internet, and other service providers well in advance of your move, facilitating an organized transition. I like to keep a spreadsheet with this information so it's easy to track. Don't miss important mail! Set up mail forwarding with your local post office to maintain organization in your communications. Arrange for pet care or childcare on moving day to keep everyone safe and stress-free, promoting an organized moving experience.

Moving Day

Embrace the excitement of your new adventure. Take deep breaths and focus on the joy of your new home while staying organized. Guide movers to the appropriate rooms and check your inventory as items are unloaded, ensuring an organized placement of belongings. Once everything is in place, celebrate with a special meal or a toast to your new home and the organized, clutter-free space you've created.

Moving can be a joyful experience when you approach it with the right attitude and a well-organized plan. With my Moving Checklist in hand, you're well on your way to creating beautiful memories in your new home. Happy moving!
